Why does this still exist?
Latley, I’ve been ecountering lots of rascism and prejudice, not just towards me, but towards other people as well.
Now, the hate is coming from all directions, from both sides of the equation. Weather you’re a skin head, a crip, or a S.O.S., it’s all emanating the same feeling of intolerance.
Why does this even exist? It’s not productive at all. The people talking about the next “race war” are to busy planning to kill people to think about anything else, much less help their society advance.
One of the most agonizing and awkward situations I have ever undergone is listening to a Neo-Nazi talk about his beliefs and why he thought the Jews should be killed, while not having the faintest clue that I AM an Ashkenazi (for those of you who are clueless, an Ashkenazi is a jew from eastern europe). I still keep in contact with him in the hopes that he will change his beliefs, but I’m not so eager to let him on to the fact that I’m jewish.
Now, what exactly is the benefit of that? Cultural identity and misunderstanding? Stupidity? I’m not sure how to describe rascism, asides from just a misunderstanding and manipulation of others into your misunderstanding.
Homophobia, however, is easier to understand, even though I despise it just as much. My grandfather was one when he was in Berlin during the Korean war, and he hadn’t gotten over it until just recently, so I understand that it is partially the result of religion forbidding homosexuality (I am NOT condoning religion, Amanda, just the way it is sometimes manipulated), and partially because of cultural intolerence (fear of something different). But being an active bigot towards gays is NOT okay, even if you DO believe that it is a sin, or whatever you choose to call it.
Why does this STILL exist? The right-wing fringe ”Birthers” are being promoted on FOX as a way to get Obama out of office on a bullshit claim that he is Kenyan. Why would it matter anyways? He’s still an American; I just have a sneaking suspicion that the notion was created by rascists and then infused into the minds of the weaker-hearted, who still get pissed at the idea of socialized medicine (even though the love medicare) and throw a hissy fit if you say “Commie”.
Just grow up, fringe America, mmkay?
No, I know you weren’t. I agree with you, actually. Truthfully, It was hard for me to deal with racism in To Kill A Mockingbird. That was just a play, too! To hear what people said and thought back then, it really made you think. I thought America was much different now, but honestly, we STILL have people like that. We are all equal people. No one is better then anyone else. No matter what your career is, or where you came from, OR what color of skin you have. We are all the same. We are all perfectly, imperfect.
America should accept that fact and move on.
